BMW Motorrad Climbs to New Heights
On the heels of setting a new retail sales record in 2011, BMW Motorrad claims that they have started off 2012 on an even higher note. Globally, 5,237 units have already been sold this year compared to last year’s 4,714 units, a significant 11.1 percent increase for the German manufacturer.
“The new year has started very pleasingly for BMW,” stated Hendrik von Kuenheim, General Director BMW Motorrad. “Never before have we sold as many motorcycles in the first month of a year as in January 2012. With the market launch of the new maxi scooters C 600 Sport and C 650 GT this spring, we are expanding our range and we anticipate an additional growth impulse in 2012.”
Along with the two new scooter models, BMW has introduced six new motorcycles for 2012: The G650GS Sertão, the revised S1000RR, a special boxer R1200GS Rallye, an updated F800R and special models of the K1300R and K1300S.
Husqvarna Motorcycles, which became BMW’s second motorcycle brand, has also enjoyed better sales having delivered 544 units compared to the previous year’s 362.
Although Husqvarna’s core business is in off-road models that include enduro, motocross, and supermoto genres, the company is broadening its range this year to include street bikes. The new NUDA 900 and NUDA 900R should result in a significant increase in sales in 2012 for the brand.
